About Us
The Florida Wrestling Room is a concept that I, Ricky Marcus, created in 2015 with the vision of uniting the wrestling community in our state. I started it as a Facebook group to provide a centralized platform for wrestling information, given the noticeable lack of coverage in newspapers, which often left fans and athletes in the dark about the sport. The response was overwhelming, and the group quickly grew into the #1 source of wrestling information in Florida, now boasting over 27,800 members.
From the beginning, I referred to our members as the TFWR Family, a term that has since resonated throughout the community. This family-oriented approach has fostered a culture where wrestlers from different schools help each other, and parents collaborate to get their kids to tournaments and training sessions. The TFWR lifestyle emphasizes support, regardless of club or school affiliation.
Our commitment to giving back has been evident since 2015. We’ve raised funds for families in need, provided Publix gift cards during the holidays, and organized a backpack drive for kids who can't afford new supplies at the start of the school year. After the major hurricanes in past years, TFWR has stepped up to supply food and water, showing the community spirit that defines us. In December 2017, we raised $2,500 in Publix gift cards to bless six families struggling to have a nice Christmas.
While the TFWR Facebook group page has been fantastic, I recognized that my vision for the wrestling community could reach new heights. With encouragement from my wife, Lori Marcus, I decided to take The Florida Wrestling Room to the next level by creating a dedicated website. As a former wrestler who competed at various levels, my passion for the sport and the desire to give back couldn’t be confined to a Facebook group.
The new website offers everything a wrestler, coach, parent, or fan could ask for and more. We cover all levels of wrestling, from youth to high school, and now even collegiate wrestling with three NAIA colleges in our state.
The Florida Wrestling Room is more than just a source of information; it has become a big wrestling family. On any given weekend, you can hear conversations about TFWR at wrestling tournaments across the state. I am deeply passionate about bringing this incredible resource to the Florida wrestling community, and I’m excited to see what the future holds!
