The RPA/Head Hunters Girls All-Star Team won the AAU Scholastic Duals last weekend in Ft Lauderdale at the Broward/Ft Lauderdale Convention Center. They competed in the all-star division which is considered the toughest division in the tournament. There are three divisions, community, developmental and all-star. Most of the wrestlers come from different schools and clubs but will wrestle on one team. The RPA/Head Hunters is made up of some of the best girls in the entire state of Florida. From Deland HS to Hernando HS to Oakleaf HS to Mater Lakes and all schools in between, this team was stacked with state champs, state placers and state qualifiers.
Coach Kurt Montanye and Coach Jamie Harrison put their heads together and hand picked the girls who they felt would give them the best shot at walking away with a team national title. These two must know what they’re talking about because that’s exactly what this team did. They won the All-Star Gold Division and came home as AAU National Champions! It was arguably the toughest pool in the tournament with teams from Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa and South Dakota that were all stacked with top 5 State Placers on all of them. The RPA/Head Hunters went undefeated all weekend and squeeked out a 34-33 win over a very talented and well coached team from St Louis, Missouri that was favored to win the whole thing. They also took down two very tough Iowa teams that they not only faced in their pool, but also had to face them again in the quarter and semi finals. I was told by a few parents that the team bonding was absolutely amazing with this group of girls. Everybody got along and even one of the girls who wasn’t staying with the team came to eat dinner with them .
RPA/Head Hunters wanted a special shout out to Cheyenne Cruce, the teams table worker and score keeper. She kept the Iowa team honest. She is an FHSAA state champion but was unable to compete in this event.
The following girls helped to make this team what it was and all played a big part in helping win their team national title.
