This past week, halfway across the globe in Bahrain, Team USA competed at the AAU ISF World Games Championships, and Florida’s finest competed on the international stage. Three of our very own female wrestlers are coming home with world medals around their necks, making their schools and country proud!
Ailee Briggs – Lemon Bay HS-
State champion Ailee Briggs, coached by the esteemed Michael Schyck, showcased her incredible skill and resilience in the 65 KG weight class, claiming world Gold! Ailee triumphed over Brazil’s Mayara Neper Oliveira Santos in the finals, bringing the gold medal back to Florida.
Nina “Cyborg” Borgmann – Flagler Palm Coast HS-
Competing in the 61 KG weight class, Nina fought her way through a series of tough matches, reaching the finals where she faced China’s skilled Yifan Zhu. Despite a fierce performance, Nina came just short of gold, taking home a well-earned Silver medal.
Mariah Mills – Flagler Palm Coast HS-
In the highly competitive 53 KG weight class, Mariah battled her way to the bronze medal match, where she defeated Romania’s Catianu Bianca-Teodora to secure her place on the podium. Mariah’s Bronze medal is a testament to her tenacity and skill.
These three champions were all Grinding for Greatness and proved they are the best in their respective age groups and weights.
This was no easy world level tournament! This was a grueling competition and every medal was earned through blood, sweat and tears. Each one of these Florida girls trained extremely hard for this tourney.
They all raised money in order to get to Bahrain and represent the United States of America. They not only represented the USA, they showed the entire world that Florida Women’s Wrestling is for real.
Keep doubting us and we will keep proving why you’re wrong. With the three world level medals coming back to the state of Florida, also comes proof that our elite female wrestlers can compete with anyone, including on the world stage!
I would like to be the first to congratulate Ailee Briggs, Nina Borgmann and Mariah Mills on their amazing accomplishments. Great job LADIES and remember one thing….If you want to be great, you must always be Grinding for Greatness!!!

Maya Alvarado is an elite level female wrestler from Lake Highland Prep coached by legendary Coach Mike Palazzo.
Mia Parker is at Sunlake this year but competed for First Baptist-Naples last season. She’s currently ranked #5 in the TFWR State HS Rankings.
